TrailTrackr App Privacy Policy
General Information
TrailTrackr (also referred to as “the app”) is a mobile application created by Qdraw (“us” or “we”), who also operates the supporting TrailTrackr web service (TrailTrackr” or “our server”).
By using and accessing the app, you agree to the terms of this policy.
Data Collection
TrailTrackr can collect and store the following data:
- Position: Location (incl. altitude), speed, direction, timestamp
- Movement (if your device supports this): Number of steps taken, predicted type of activity (walking, cycling,…)
- Environment (if your device supports this): Air pressure
- Health data: Heart rate, active energy, and distance may be recorded to your Health app via an Apple Watch workout session (write-only; TrailTrackr does not read this data back)
More data and statistics may be derived from the above-mentioned sources.
Your data will never be commercialized, monetized, or otherwise exploited. In particular, that means we will never use your data for purposes of advertising, nor will we, for example, sell your data to insurance or other firms with your permission.
Apple Watch Companion App
TrailTrackr offers an optional Apple Watch app that lets you start and record activities directly from your wrist. Tracks recorded on the Watch are transferred to the TrailTrackr app on your paired iPhone using Apple's on-device Watch Connectivity framework; this data is never sent to us or any third party during that transfer, and is stored locally like any other track once it arrives on your iPhone.
While recording, the Watch app starts a workout session using Apple's HealthKit framework so your recording keeps running reliably in the background. This saves a workout entry to your Health app, which may include metrics such as heart rate, active energy, and distance automatically collected by your Apple Watch during the session. This health data is stored by Apple in your on-device Health database, not by TrailTrackr; we do not share this outside the on-device app.
Data Storage
TrailTrackr stores all data locally on your device. You can delete individual tracks within the app, or uninstall the app to delete all data.
If you are logged in to iCloud and have enabled its backup option, your TrailTrackr data will be backed up to your iCloud account, i.e., uploaded to Apple’s servers.
Data Export
TrailTrackr will never automatically upload your data to the internet (apart from iCloud system backups, see above).
TrailTrackr does enable you to share the above-mentioned recorded track data with others as a GPX file. Such files may contain the above-mentioned data, but no identifying information, such as your name or email address, will be included.
Share as a GPX File
You can share GPX files directly using system integrations (Mail, Files,…) or third-party apps.
Third-party apps on your device may provide extensions, allowing you to export individual tracks from TrailTrackr as GPX files to other services, such as Dropbox. This requires explicit interaction on your part, and will never be initiated by TrailTrackr automatically. Please review the respective app’s privacy policy.
Basic Usage Statistics
We would like your help to improve the quality and performance of TrailTrackr. The app can automatically collect diagnostic and usage information and send it to us for analysis.
At the moment disabling diagnostics is not supported
Diagnostic and usage information may include details about hardware and operating system specifications, performance statistics, and data about how the app is used. Only general information is collected, such as which screens are viewed, and the duration of recordings. Your recordings, locations, and other personal information are never sent as part of the diagnostics. None of the collected information identifies you personally.
We use a first party service to analyse the data from the app, we don't use any third party service in the app.
The Apple Watch companion app collects and sends the same kind of basic diagnostic and usage information described above.
On this website: We use a third party service (Google Analytics) to aggregate, analyze, and better understand the data. All aggregated data is deleted automatically after 26 months.
Privacy Policy Updates
We reserve the right to update or modify this privacy policy. This might become necessary, e.g., when we make changes to our services. Please review this policy periodically, especially before providing personal information to TrailTrackr.
The privacy policy was last changed at the date indicated at the end of this page. Any changes made to this policy will become effective when we publish the revised policy here. Your continued use of our app shall indicate your acceptance of such revisions.
Android Waitlist
If you join the Android waitlist, we collect your email address through Google Forms. We only use it to invite you to the Android beta and to let you know when the app is available. If you want us to delete your data, email support@qdraw.nl.
OpenStreetMap Map Style
TrailTrackr can show maps based on OpenStreetMap data, rendered with MapLibre. On iOS this map style is optional and Apple Maps is the default; on Android it is the default map style. When this map style is used (on iOS also when its preview is shown in the map style settings), the app downloads map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org).
Like any request over the internet, this reveals your IP address and the map area you are viewing to that service. Your recordings, tracks and other personal information are never sent. Please review the privacy policy of OpenFreeMap. When you use Apple Maps on iOS, Apple's privacy policy applies.
