An AI-Ready Hiking App: Siri, Shortcuts and Agents
TrailTrackr works with the assistants you already use. On iPhone, Siri, the Shortcuts app and other apps and agents that can call App Intents can start a recording, ask how it is going, and find or import a track. On Mac they can read the statistics of a GPX file, convert it, and optimize it. You decide what you chain together, and your GPS tracks stay on your device.
On iPhone
- Start and stop a recording. "Start a hike in TrailTrackr", "Stop the recording in TrailTrackr". Siri asks for the activity when you do not say it.
- Ask for the recording status. "Recording status in TrailTrackr" tells you whether a recording is running or paused, and with which activity.
- Search a track by name. You get the number of matches and the latest three with name, distance and date. A search returns at most 10 tracks at a time.
- Import a track. Hand over a GPX, KML, KMZ or GeoJSON file from a Shortcut or another app. It goes through the same checks as the file picker, and a track you already have is reported instead of added twice.
- Open a track. Saved tracks show up in Spotlight, and tapping one opens it in TrailTrackr.
Every action is also in the Shortcuts app (add an action, then Apps, then TrailTrackr), so you can combine them with other apps, for example to start a recording when you leave home.
On Mac
- Get Track Statistics. Give it a track file and it answers with distance, duration, ascent, descent and number of points, in your own units.
- Convert Track. Turn a file into GPX, KML or GeoJSON and get a new file back.
- Optimize Track. Remove points that barely change the shape of the route (light, medium or strong) and get a new, smaller file back.
These actions never touch a window you have open and never change the original: you always get a new file. They do not use the network. More about TrailTrackr for Mac.
Built so you stay in control
- Summaries, not your whole route. What Siri, Shortcuts or an agent can read from your library is the name, date, distance, duration and activity of a track. The GPS points are not handed out by these actions on iPhone, and there is no action to export a track from there.
- Nothing is deleted or edited. None of the actions deletes or changes a track.
- Strict about files. Files that come in this way are checked like any other file: size limit, valid coordinates, and no external content is loaded.
- On your device. The index in Spotlight is built and kept on your device. Read how we handle data in the privacy policy.
Try it
- Update TrailTrackr from the App Store.
- Say "Recording status in TrailTrackr" to Siri, or open the Shortcuts app and look for TrailTrackr under Apps.
- On Mac, add "Get Track Statistics" to a Shortcut and pass it a GPX file.
